Butch was sick and didn't play tonight but his nephew Duane did a great job filling in. Here's what Marley Jay had to say about the show on the ABB website:
Duane's style seems a little more like Jaimoe's than Butch's, so his songs really swing. Oteil seems to like playing with him. Stand Back in particular was great. That was the best Every Hungry Woman ever. Epic performance so far from Oteil. Stand Back and Same Thing were also huge. They did Same Thing with the slow intro. This has been a quiet second set for Gregg, but I am digging this Latin take on Les Brers- Santana would approve! It was an odd show in some ways, starting with the fact that Butch was out and extending to quiet nights for both Gregg and Jaimoe. Gregg sang six songs in the first set and maybe that wore him out somewhat, because he sang very little in the second half. Jaimoe only officially sat out one song, but his presence on a couple of others was really light. All that being said there were some top notch performances here: I'll stand by my vote for Best Every Hungry Woman ever, even topping the ones they played from 2002-2004, when it could be a major highlight. There's a new jammy section where instead of trying to fly over the top from the beginning, they just build and build. Stand Back always elevates a show in my experience and it was a good fit for their personnel last night. Les Brers had a Santana feel with the two drummers and two percussionists. I'm always glad to hear Who's Been Talking, and No One to Run With was strong. They've adapted it into something really cool and it seems like the song that best captures what's going on with the band right now. Disc 1 1. Don’t Want You No More (2:43) 2.
