Best show of the year?  Always a tough call, but this show is definitely in the running.  An excellent “Mountain Jam” opens the night on a strong note, but things really catch fire with a rocking version of “Gilded Splinters” that the band dedicates to the recently deceased Johnny Jenkins.  A bluesy, powerful “Smokestack Lightning” is another gem, but the ABB definitely saved the best for last.  An overwhelming “Mountain Jam” reprise contains some of Derek’s most inspirational playing, dipping into a long “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” tease and the 20-minute “Whipping Post” is a passionate, epic performance, led by Warren’s intensely emotional solo.
