We've had so many request for this program that we decided to put it up on the website.  Hittin' the Note wanted to contribute something very special to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Allman Brothers Band as well as the 20 year history of the Brothers at the Beacon Theatre in New York City.  So we created this 32 page program with that in mind.  Here are the program's introductory comments from our Editor, John Lynskey, describing what you will find inside:

Greetings everyone,

Welcome to the Beacon Theatre and to a very special moment in music history.  Few bands reach the 40-year milestone, and even fewer have done it with the power and intensity of the Allman Brothers Band.  Since 1969, the ABB has captivated audiences with their unique sound and style; quite simply, they are the greatest live performance band of all time.  New York is a city near and dear to the group’s heart, and over the last 20 years, their annual run at the Beacon has become a rite of passage.  Hittin’ the Note magazine has gathered some special articles to help celebrate both the 40th anniversary of the band and the last 20 years in New York, and we’re certain that you will enjoy them.

Randy Poe’s Skydog: The Duane Allman Story, is the definitive work on the ABB founding guitarist, and Randy was kind enough to give us an excerpt from Skydog that takes us back to March 26th, 1969 – the day it all began for the Allman Brothers Band.

First appearing in HTN #12, “The Night They Closed the Fillmore Down” is Rowland Archer’s first-hand account of the ABB’s epic June 26th, 1971 show at Bill Graham’s legendary venue, the Fillmore East in Greenwich Village.  Many people believe the band never played better than they did on this magical night, and reading this excerpt from Rowland’s stirring account will help to explain why.

In 2001, college student Sam Hare received the break of a lifetime – he got to interview Eric Clapton about playing with Duane Allman on the Layla album, the ultimate guitar collaboration album.  From Hittin’ the Note #26, here is a selection from “Slowhand Remembers Skydog.”

Josh Chasin has witnessed almost every Allman Brothers Band appearance in New York since 1989, and he shares his memories of the last two decades with the ABB and NYC in his compelling piece, “A New York State of Mind: The Allman Brothers Band and NYC.”

Hittin’ the Note has been covering the Allman Brothers Band since 1992, and we are honored and pleased to present this commemorative program.  Please visit hittinthenote.com, where you will find exclusive Allman Brothers Band merchandise, as well as T-shirts, CDs, DVDs, posters and other cool stuff, including ABB archival and live concert recordings.  You can also read all of these featured articles in their entirety, plus find out much more about Hittin’ the Note magazine.  Thanks for reading, and may they play all night.

Enjoy every note,

 John Lynskey
