Many of you may know Mike Mattison as the lead singer of the Derek Trucks Band, but you don’t really know the scope of his talent if you haven’t heard his band Scrapomatic. This earthy duo, featuring Paul Olsen on guitar and Mattison on vocals, plays some of the grittiest, most low-down blues imaginable. This is the blues as a living music, conjured equally from the mean streets of New York, the deltas and bayous of Louisiana, and the infinitely fertile imagination of Mike Mattison.

Their new album Alligator Love Cry is their strongest effort yet, an amazing collection of heartfelt and soulful tunes straight from the heart. From the decadent landscape of “Louisiana Anna” to the gospel testimony of “I Belong To The Band,” Scrapomatic doesn’t hit a single wrong note. Timeless tunes like “Long Way Home” and “So Much Love” can stand proudly next to venerated blues classics, and Mike’s raspy voice packs a soulful punch, whether he is shouting angrily on “Horsemeat” or singing a weary lullaby like “Tired Weak Legs.”
