Holiday Merchandise Update!
|
|
The holiday season has been very busy here at HTN, and we are grateful
for your support! All but a very few of the Beacon Boxes have shipped, as well as
lots of T-shirts, posters, CDs, DVDs, books and everything else under the sun.
Of course, as the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and with
Christmas right around the corner, we can no longer guarantee delivery by December
25th for any new orders after December 19th. Don't worry, we are fairly caught up
on all orders, and any order that was placed by today should ship by Monday, and
get to you by December 24th.
Please be advised that our office will be closed from 12/24/09 until 1/4/10 for
a much-needed break. At that point we will be back in the office, rested and rejuvenated,
ready for your post-Christmas needs. If something needs correcting or adjusting
from your holiday orders you can e-mail us at customerservice@hittinthenote.com or leave
a message for us at 770-640-1124. We will respond beginning January 4th.
Last but not least, please accept our warmest holiday wishes for you and your family.
We look forward to the New York run in March, Wanee and Jazz Fest in April, and
whatever else 2010 has in store!

Hittin' the Note Issue 63!
|
It has been quite a year for the Allman Brothers Band, and the same can
be said for Hittin' the Note. Fittingly, we close out 2009 with a cover story dedicated
to Duane Allman, the man who started it all.
In 2006, Randy Poe published Skydog: The Duane Allman Story, the definitive
biography of the consummate guitarist. Because of editorial constraints, Randy had
to omit the book's final chapter, which has remained unread - until now. Hittin'
the Note is proud to present "Free Bird: The Continuing Legacy of Duane
Allman" in its entirety. Yonder Mountain String Band has been winning over fans
show-by show, and all that hard work is paying dividends. Jim Fink caught up with
the Yonder Mountain guys during a recent stand in Buffalo, and the love they have
for their craft is obvious.
In 1970, Tom Johnston co-founded the Doobie Brothers, and the guitarist/songwriter
has since penned some of the biggest hits in the band's considerable catalogue.
The Doobies are still rockin' down the highway, and as the group wraps up work on
a new CD, Tom is quite happy that the fans keep listening to the music. Devon Allman
always has been comfortable in his own musical skin, which is quite impressive,
given his family heritage. He and his band, Honeytribe, have put out an outstanding
CD, Torch, and while he is proud of his lineage, Devon Allman made it clear
to HTN's Rhys Williams that he charting his own course.
Some bands last only for a brief time, but have an impact that resonates for years
- and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band is the classic example. Their album East-West
had a huge impact on the sound of the original Allman Brothers Band, and Rob Johnson
gives us a wonderful recap of the power and the glory of the Paul Butterfield Blues
Band. Harp master Thom Doucette was an early friend of the guys in the Allman Brothers;
he was essentially an honorary member during the band's first few years. We dug
into the archives and found this conversation between Thom and Kirk West that took
place in 1987. Thom's account of the time he spent with Berry Oakley, Dickey Betts
and Duane Allman remains vibrant and entertaining.
Rounding things out for this issue are our usual features: "Compact Dreams" by Tom
Clarke and Jamie Lee's "In Tune," as well as our "HTN 6-Packs" and CD recaps. In
addition, our "Photo Session" features the works of Dino Perrucci, who has emerged
as a mainstay photographer of the New York City music scene. Click here to order this jam-packed issue, or

Yonrico Scott New Year's Eve Extravaganza!
|

|
Anyone who has seen the Yonrico Scott Band play at the Five Spot in Atlanta
knows that it is an intimate and rewarding musical experience. The new club has
become a home base of sorts for Yonrico recently, and he has played some great shows
there, so it is only fitting that he will return to the Five Spot to ring in 2010
in style!
Besides Yonrico and Kofi Burbridge of the Derek Trucks Band, soulful vocalist Laura
Reed will be joining the fray, and Mace Hibbard of Soul Stew Revival will make a
guest appearance on horns, adding an extra measure of funky goodness. Unfortunately,
Todd Smallie is not playing bass at this show due to a prior commitment. Bassist
extraordinaire Joseph Patrick Moore, familiar to many of our readers for playing
with Col. Bruce Hampton and others, will be more than up to the challenge.
For those of you who haven't seen the YSB in action, expect everything from jazz
classics to deep funk, all delivered with expert musicianship and enthusiastic spirit.
This should be a night of great music, and a wonderful way to ring in the New Year!
Click here to buy tickets, and we hope to see
you there.

Moogis Prepares For Round Two!
|
|
With the Beacon Theater unavailable in 2010 due to a long-running Cirque
Du Soleil production, a lot of question marks surround the Allman Brothers Band's
annual New York City run. What venue will the group play? How many shows will there
be? We will keep you posted when the details become available, but there is still
a lot we just don't know.
One thing we DO know is that
Moogis will be there! Butch Trucks' innovative web project will stream every
show live over the Internet in top-notch audio and video quality. As thousands of
people discovered during last year's Beacon run, there is nothing like enjoying
the music of the Allman Brothers Band from the privacy and comfort of your own living
room.
Of course, in order to make the dream a reality, Moogis needs you! If you recently renewed
your subscription through March 1st, that $60 payment will count towards the $150
needed to watch every 2010 NYC show live. The New York run always delivers some
of the most sensational ABB shows of the year, and with 2010 looking like a light
one in terms of Allman Brothers Band touring, Moogis may be your best bet.
If you haven't subscribed to
Moogis before now, what are you waiting for? Check out the website at www.moogis.com for all the details
on the future of Internet music!
