For years it has been the most-asked question here at Hittin' the Note, and now we finally have the answer you have always wanted. We are delighted to announce that YES, we will have CDs of the recent ABB Beacon shows! This historic run has been one of the finest moments in the band's history, and now you can relive every special guest, every thrilling jam, every great song of the 15-night marathon with our Beacon Box!

Want to hear the ABB playing with the next-generation jambands that they influenced? Check out the great jams with the members of Phish and Widespread Panic. How about old-school blues players? We've got Buddy Guy, Bob Margolin and Taj Mahal. Looking for guests with connections to Duane Allman? There were lots of those, including but not limited to Boz Scaggs, Bonnie Bramlett, the Kingpins, Tommy Talton, and, last but not least, Eric Clapton.

Besides the wealth of special guests, it would be an understatement to say that this run represents a high point in the performance of the current band. A rejuvenated Gregg Allman sounds better than ever, Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks continue to amaze as the best guitar duo of their generation, and the rhythm section is in a class by itself. Listen to the brand new instrumental for evidence of how creative and vital this band is today.

Much like the Summer Set we have been putting out for years, this will be a limited edition, serial numbered, collectible package. The actual box is stylish and handmade, painted black, with the ABB logo lasered into the wood. Included in this Beacon Box are exclusive photographs of the 2009 Beacon run, including rehearsal shots you won't see anywhere else, courtesy of the Tour Mystic, Kirk West. The Beacon Box is also the only place you can find the Allman Brothers Band's performance from the 2008 Christmas Jam. As with the Summer Set, we are collecting $100 deposits now, with the balance due when the box is ready. Click here to check out the set list, order individual shows and to reserve your box now!

We also are happy to share some new Gregg Allman merchandise with you. In the wake of Gregg's recent illness, we all appreciate his artistry more than ever, and based on the recent Beacon shows, Mr. Allman is poised for yet another great chapter in his storied career. These fine shirts and jacket are a great way to pay tribute to the greatest blues-rock singer of all time. Check out the groovy design on this jacket, which is made of sturdy black denim. Pretty sharp!

Please note that the shirts include both short-sleeve and long-sleeve shirts, so you have something for every season. If you have been feeling that your Gregg Allman wardrobe was lacking, we've got what it takes to fix that problem! Don't suffer in silence any longer. Just click here to order these items.

If you are in the area be sure not to miss Gregg Allman and Friends on April 24th at the Belterra Resort and Casino in Florence, IN and on April 25th and 26th at the Potawatomi Casino Northern Lights Theatre in Milwaukee, WI.

It was a rare treat for Hittin' the Note Records to work with Tommy Talton for our first-ever CD release, Someone Else's Shoes, and we were blown away by the positive response to that excellent effort by the legendary member of Cowboy and the Capricorn Rhythm Section. Tommy is one of our favorite artists, and it was a dream come true to help bring his music back to the forefront.

Well, when something works the first time, you do it again, so we are! Tommy Talton has always thrived most in a live setting, and the new CD Live Notes from Athens reveals why he is such a master showman. The intimate vocals, the insightful songwriting, the guitar playing that can be either nasty or sweet, depending on the song - it's all here. Not to mention Tommy's fantastic band, including Tony Giordano on keys, Chad Jackson on drums, and Brandon Peeples on bass, all of whom shine brightly throughout this wonderful recording.

Lots of Talton classics are on Live Notes from Athens, from "Time Will Take Us" to "I'm On Your Side," but part of the appeal here is hearing Tommy do songs you might not have heard before. His versions of Allen Toussaint's "On Your Way Down" and Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth" prove that Talton is a great interpreter of other's material, as well as a great songwriter. Don't worry; there are plenty of new originals as well - 5 never before released songs like "Color My Sleep," "Getaway Cars," and "Deal with the Deal."

For those of you near Athens, GA be sure to come to the CD Release Party this Saturday night, April 4th, at the Melting Point. The first 20 peoiple to purchase a CD will receive a signed, autographed picture from Tommy Talton! Other scheduled CD Release Parties will occur at the Capitol Oyster Bar on April 9th in Montgomery, MS, The Bottling Company in Hattiesburg, MS on April 10th and at Tipitinas in New Orleans, LA on April 11th. For additional tour dates please check www.tommytaltonband.com.

Speaking of underrated musical geniuses, how about that Pedro Arevalo? Known to HTN readers for everything from playing bass with Dickey Betts and Great Southern to playing guitar in Devon Allman's Honeytribe, Pedro is a multifaceted musician, a true renaissance man who covers a wide variety of styles and instruments.

On his new CD, Pedro Arevalo and Friends Too, Pedro expands on the musical mix that he brought to his first CD. There is still plenty of back porch blues on this disc, but also several jazzy instrumentals, and even a few tunes with some island flavor. Arevalo is the kind of artist who refuses to be pigeonholed into a convenient box, and he goes wherever his muse takes him. We are all lucky to be able to go along for the ride!

"Mi Guajirita" opens the CD on a Latin note, and immediately you sense the artistic growth since Pedro's last CD. "Descarga Arevalo" is another great number, dedicated to Pedro's mother, and this tune will stick in your head for a while. Of course, songs like "Country Blues" and "Keep On Rollin' On" continue in the laid-back blues vein that made the last CD so enjoyable.

For years you have read in Hittin' the Note about a book called Street Singers, Soul Shakers, and Rebels with a Cause. This definitive history of the Macon, GA, music scene has been a long time coming, but as with many things in life, anything this good is worth waiting for!

The news is that the wait is finally over, and the results are nothing less than stunning! Rare photos, insight from the movers and shakers in Macon, plenty of Allman Brothers Band content - this book has it all! A fine coffee table piece that would be the pride of any home, this isn't just a book; it's a work of art. Allman Brothers Band fans will be happy to hear that the chapter on the ABB is the longest in the book, a full-bodied 30 pages with lots of rare pictures of the group, and worth the price of admission. Add great sections about such Macon legends as Little Richard, Otis Redding and Phil Walden, and you have a book that you just can't afford to live without.

If you will forgive us a sentimental thought, our late, much-loved Publisher Bill Ector worked on this book for a while before he became ill, and it was a project he was very excited about. He would be happy to know that the final result is everything he had hoped it would be. Click here to order!
