New Randall Bramblett CD And CD Release Party!

We couldn't be more proud or honored that the first two artists to release albums on our own Hittin' the Note record label are Tommy Talton and Randall Bramblett! After releasing both Someone Else's Shoes and Live Notes From Athens by Tommy, our latest CD is Jammin' in the Attic, an exhilarating collaboration between former Sea Level member Bramblett and Australian guitarist Geoff Achison, with the razor-sharp rhythm section of drummer Yonrico Scott and bassist Ted Pecchio backing them up. Supporting great artists like these is why HTN was founded in the first place, and as the old saying goes, if you want something done right, do it yourself!

This CD, recorded 6/13/10 at the legendary Eddie's Attic in Decatur, GA, is a wonderful example of what can happen when two great musicians and songwriters put aside their egos and join forces. The dynamic duo alternate between Randall's songs and Geoff's original tunes, and the result is greater than the sum of the parts. Check out how Achison's sensitive accompaniment enhances Bramblett's "Nobody's Problem" or how Randall's sax perfectly complements Geoff's "Rule the World." Oliver Wood of King Johnson adds scorching electric guitar licks to tunes like Achison's "Jungle" and Bramblett's "Get In Get Out," proving that with musicians of this caliber, more is definitely merrier. Click here to buy your very own copy, and also check out our new Randall Bramblett section for more CDs by one of the most versatile and talented musicians on the scene today.

If you like insightful lyrics, soulful vocals, thoughtful solos, and tight playing, this CD is sure to please. Last Call For Beacon Box!
It would be an understatement to say that the 2009 Beacon Box has been the most popular product in the history of Hittin' the Note, and it's no mystery why it has been such a hit. This legendary 40th Anniversary celebration of the musical legacy of the Allman Brothers Band, featuring such amazing guest artists as Eric Clapton, was a historic run and provided some of the best music in recent years.

However, as the old saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and the Beacon Box was always designed as a limited edition collector's item. We have expanded the run once already, and we don't want to dilute the special nature of these unique box sets. Therefore, we have decided that once the current supply of boxes is gone, the Beacon Box will be out of print.

We only have less than 20 of the boxes left, complete with serial numbers and the special 60-page booklet. If you have put down a deposit on a box, click here to pay the remaining balance. If you've always wanted a box, but figured you had plenty of time to get one, now is the time to order one. Rest assured that we will still have the individual shows available, but consider this your last call for one of the most special and collectible items we've ever offered.

New Whitewater Ramble CD!
Like most good music, Whitewater Ramble is hard to put in a category. They have a strong bluegrass strain embedded in their DNA, but they also draw heavily from blues, funk, and the gypsy jazz tradition exemplified by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. The one thing you can always count on from this Colorado-based outfit is that their music will be high-energy, uplifting and performed with gusto and limitless technical acumen.

Their new album All Night Drive, their first proper studio effort, shows the band reaching a new level. They have taken the intoxicating energy of their live shows, which earned them opening slots for such luminaries as Railroad Earth and Little Feat, and bottled it for mass consumption. Tim Carbone, Railroad Earth fiddle maestro and producer supreme, has done a great job of capturing what makes Whitewater Ramble such an enjoyable group.

From the ripping riffage of "Gypsy Funk" to the gritty "Pack Mule Blues," there is something here for everyone. Special guests like guitarist Josh Clark of Tea Leaf Green contribute to the full sound of this album, but it's the members of Whitewater Ramble that shine the brightest, with the fluid fiddle lines of Adam Galblum and the rapid-fire mandolin picking of Patrick Sites standing out for their virtuosity.

In a world where musical originality sometimes seems like a lost art, Whitewater Ramble has found a new way to mix and match influences, and in the process has created something uniquely their own. Mulberry Mountain Harvest Fest!
Speaking of great jamgrass bands, few groups have captured the imagination of the unplugged crowd in recent years more thoroughly than Yonder Mountain String Band, the headliner/host of the Mulberry Mountain Harvest Fest. Held at the same beautiful Arkansas site that has hosted Wakarusa for the past two years, this year's Harvest Fest features two full-bodied YMSB shows, a substantial fix for lovers of one of the most dynamic and entertaining live bands around.

Yonder may be the top name on the marquee, but the quality doesn't stop there. Newgrass legend Sam Bush, the sublime sounds of Railroad Earth, the Travelin' McCourys, recently reunited jam dynamo Leftover Salmon, and many more will be at this fine festival, guaranteed to satisfy lovers of great picking and great songs!

Whitewater Ramble will be there, as well as Cornmeal, another outstanding up-and-coming band that will be reviewed in the next issue of Hittin' the Note. If you like your jamming with an acoustic, hand-picked Americana flavor, it's hard to imagine a better weekend of music than Mulberry Mountain Harvest Fest.

Best of all, like all of our favorite festivals at HTN, Harvest Fest takes place in an absolutely gorgeous natural setting that adds to the whole experience. If you've never been to the Ozark Mountains, you're missing out on one of the most underrated and beautiful areas of this great country.

Jaimoe's Jasssz Band!
As many HTN readers already know, Jaimoe's Jasssz Band offers a delightful mix of jazz, funk and R&B, with top-notch players like guitarist Junior Mack and long time bassiest Dave Stoltz joining the ABB drummer as they tackle everything from jazz standards like "Night In Tunisia" to funk classics like Pee Wee Ellis' "The Chicken." A night out with the Jasssz Band is a unique opportunity to see Jaimoe in a totally different environment than in the ABB, displaying his swinging jazz chops in an intimate setting with some of the finest supporting musicians around.

These shows are that much more special because they don't happen very often, but the Northeast will get not just one, but two chances to check out Jaimoe's Jasssz Band in the coming months. On September 25th they will be at the KC Dubliner Grille in Burlington, CT and on October 19th they play a very special gig at New York's legendary Iridium Club. Known for the regular residency that iconic guitarist Les Paul established there for years, Jaimoe and the gang will be walking on hallowed ground when they hit the Iridium stage. You will want to be there for this one!

Please call 860.673.6881 after 4PM for tickets to the KC Dubliner show, or click here for tickets to the Iridium, and enjoy the shows!

Red Dog Update!
The benefit concert for legendary ABB roadie Joseph "Red Dog" Campbell in Macon at the Cox Capitol Theater on August 14th was a big success! The Tommy Talton Band, Davin McCoy and the Coming Attractions, and the Almost Brothers Band provided incredible music. The event was pretty spectacular already, but the addition of special guests Randall Bramblett and former Allman Brother Chuck Leavell took the evening up a notch and made it a show people will be talking about for years to come.

Many thousands of dollars were raised for Red Dog's medical treatment. He can still use your help, though. Check out our New Stuff page for t-shirts and posters from the event, and in the next week or so be sure to check back for a download of some of the highlights from the night’s performances!

Last but not least, Hittin' the Note is proud to announce that Red Dog's Book of Tails is now back in print! This long out-of-print classic, written in Red Dog's inimitable style, recounts his adventures with the ABB and shows that along with his many other talents, Joseph "Red Dog" Campbell has a unique knack for telling a story.
