As the band entered the first weekend of the Beacon run, they took it up a notch with a scorching show! The parade of all-star guests continued, with blues legend Buddy Guy and Trey Anastasio and Page McConnell from iconic jamband Phish contributing to a show for the ages.

The whole first set has a bluesy tone, with fantastic versions of the Howlin' Wolf classic "Who's Been Talkin'" and Muddy Waters' "You Can't Lose What You Never Had" before Mr. Guy even hit the stage. Buddy wasted no time, taking the band deep into the blues with a ripping take on "The Sky Is Crying" that showed why he is one of the all-time greatest blues guitarists. The biting tone and aggressive attack that inspired Clapton and Hendrix is on full display on this tune! Buddy also left his mark on "You Don't Love Me" and "Southbound," which featured the first appearance of Trey and Page, who would rejoin the ABB at the start of the second set.

The second set was a jam extravaganza--Only 5 songs including the encore, but 90 minutes long! A passionate, rollicking "I Know You Rider" opened the set, and then things got really interesting with an expansive 21 minute "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" that allowed Trey and Page to add their own style to this epic jam. The set continued with an otherworldly "Dreams," with Derek taking the lead solo, and a powerhouse "Jessica" that shook the Beacon to its foundations. This set is truly a jam lover's dream!

Two of the best moments of the show came at the very beginning and the very end. Warren and Derek opened the show with an intimate duet on "Little Martha" for the second time in the run, paying tribute to Duane Allman with a beautiful reading of this delicate piece. The "Statesboro Blues" encore may look unremarkable on paper, but this was an extended, jammed-out blockbuster of a "Statesboro," with Warren leading the band and crowd in a "Hey! Hey! The Blues Are Alright!" chant at the end. A fitting way to close out a great night of music!
