The second-to-last Allman Brothers show was all about high voltage jamming in generally concise formats—face-melting heat squeezed into short songs. “Done Somebody Wrong” was immediate and to the point, both guitar players swinging on their solos. In “Leave My Blues at Home,” Warren and Derek were in each other’s faces, throwing down, clipping the ends of each other’s solos; it was an early, incendiary highlight. “You Don’t Love Me,” “I Found a Love” and “That’s What Love Can Make You Do” comprised a little soul/R’n’B interlude mid-set, and the band whipped up a healthy, heapin’ fixin’ of Memphis soul stew. “Black Hearted Woman” closed out the set with the big smolder.

After a breezy “Come and Go Blues” to open the second set, the band moved slowly and deliberately into the majestic overture that heralds “Les Brers.” Gregg, who’s been especially active all run in taking solos, took the first one, laying down washes of electric soul. In Derek’s flashy solo, the music tumbled to a sort of a halt, stopping and rolling forward simultaneously; then Derek broke the tension by taking off into tonight’s rendition of “Will the Circle Be Unbroken,” full of beautiful, elegiac lines. They’ve played this every show this run, and each version has been different, and special. Then they took us back into Les Brers and a frenetic drum solo break.

Warren’s voice was strong all night, and “Blind Willie McTell” was a somber, sour tour de force. “That’s What Love Can Make You Do” was a torrid exercise in one-chord jamming, and “Dreams” was a showcase for Warren’s fat, elastic, creamy shimmering tones. The band was in the red all night, turned all the way up at least to ten, and of course this continued in the full frontal “Whipping Post” finale. The energy level was so high that “No One Left to Run With” began before everyone was even back out on stage.

Tonight, they brung it, but good.
