It was truly an incredible summer tour for the Allman Brothers Band in 2007, with so many outstanding performances. Listed below are the cream of the crop, according to the Tour Mystic, for this year's West's Best package. Each show was amazing with more than it's share of special songs, solos and guest artist - it had to be to get in this group!
The 8/5 Saratoga show features great sit-ins from Cody and Luther Dickinson of the North Mississippi All-Stars, and Luther’s slide work and interplay on “Come On In My Kitchen” and “Highway 61 Revisited” is one of many highlights from this show. The 8/8 Boston show features a rare version of “Dazed and Confused,” plus killer performances of “Desdemona” and “Dreams,” and a great guest appearance by Susan Tedeschi on “Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright.”
The 8/12 Virginia Beach show is a cornucopia of rare delights, with the band playing everything from deep ABB cuts like “End of the Line” and blues classics like “The Sky Is Crying” to a smokin’ rendition of Hendrix’s “Manic Depression.” The 8/15 Burgettstown show also showcases Susan on a standout version of “Lost Lover Blues,” and the show features arguably the best “Mountain Jam” of the year, along with a fantastic opening combo of “Les Brers” and “Walk On Gilded Splinters.”
The
Darien Lake show from 8/19 opens with an explosive “Revival” and never comes down. Check out the amazing, mind melting ending to Every Hungry Woman! Ratdog keyboardist Jeff Chimenti adds a lot of flavor to “Who’s Been Talking” and guitarist Steve Kimock sits in for a sublime “Mountain Jam”. The 8/22 Holmdel show was the last of the Ratdog tour, and the ABB invited the whole band onstage for a uniquely jazzy version of “All Along the Watchtower.” That is only one of this show’s charms, as it features an unbelievably powerful “Les Brers,” a 30-minute heavyweight champion “Jessica” and a “Whipping Post” encore that will make your hair stand on end!
