It's been a long time coming -
the last Allman Brothers Band show was September 9th, 2007, almost
11 months ago. The longest gap between shows since the band reunited
in 1989 is about to come to an end, which means more live ABB
shows from Hittin' the Note!
If you won't be able to make the shows in person, or you
don't want to wait after the shows to get your copy, you
can order them right here. Every show on the August tour will
be available, and we anticipate shipping them out 2-3 weeks after
each show.
Every heartrending Gregg Allman vocal, every Warren Haynes or
Derek Trucks guitar solo, every brilliant moment of collective
improvisation will be yours to enjoy in the privacy of your own
home. Play all night! |

Of
course, it wouldn't be tour season without new T-shirts,
but never fear, we've got those, too! As you can see above, we have several new designs for this tour and a few
old favorites as well. Wear your ABB pride on your sleeve and
tell friends, family, and random strangers on the street that
you support the Allman Brothers Band without saying a word.
A certain vocal segment of our customer base is sure to be very
excited about our new golf shirts. It's been a while since
we offered these comfortable collared shirts, and this design
is sure to please. These shirts may not help your golf game, but
you sure will look good out on the course! Click
here to order, or to see larger images of the shirts. |

Even
though it's still summer, the Fall festival season will be here
before we know it, and Hittin' the Note is proud to once
again sponsor Magnoliafest! The festival takes place October 23-26
at Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida. (Click
here for more info about the park) www.musicliveshere.com
This is one of the longest-running music festivals in the country,
and it has become an October tradition for us and many of our
readers.
Why, do you ask? There are many reasons. First, festival founders
Randy and Beth Judy have done a wonderful job over the years of
cultivating a true family atmosphere, musically and otherwise.
The fans and performers who attend Magfest have literally become
a family, and this is one festival that you can comfortably bring
young children to without worrying about it. Second, it's held
at the incomparable Spirit of Suwannee Music Park, our very favorite
outdoor music venue.
Of course, those things wouldn't mean as much without lots of
great music, but this year especially, Magfest really has it going
on. There has always been a strong Grateful Dead flavor at this
festival. Oteil Burbridge will be there as a part of KBM, an exciting
new trio that also features drummer Bill Kreutzmann of the Grateful
Dead and guitarist Scott Murawski of Max Creek. Melvin Seals and
JGB, David Gans of the Grateful Dead Hour, and Donna Jean Godchaux
and the Tricksters are just a few of the bands on this year's
lineup that trace their roots to the Dead's tie-dyed family tree.
Col. Bruce Hampton and his excellent new band the Quark Alliance
will also be there, and of course Donna the Buffalo will be playing
everywhere but the parking lot, and don't rule that out either.
You can always count on an outstanding array of top-fight bluegrass
and Americana at MagnoliaFest, and this year in no exception.
For starters, how about Sam Bush, Peter Rowan, the Duhks, and
Joe Craven? Newgrass sensations the Avett Brothers will be making
their second Magfest appearance, this time in support of a brand
new record soon to be released on the Sony imprint American Records
and produced by none other than Rick Rubin (Johnny Cash), which
should be legendary. As usual, most bands will play multiple sets
over the weekend, and the music is virtually non-stop from Thursday
to Sunday. Check out www.magmusic.com

In the most recent issue of Hittin' the Note, you may have read
our rave review of the new Heavenly Jams Band CD Bridging
the Gap. We are pleased to announce that this hotly anticipated
disc is now in stock!
Guitarist Yosi Piamenta is a truly underrated musical treasure
whose playing gleams with spirit and soul, and his CD with ABB
bassist Oteil Burbridge was a big hit with HTN readers. (Now back
in stock as well, click here for details) Here he is backed by
Yonrico Scott, Todd Smallie and Kofi Burbridge of the Derek Trucks
Band, and the results are simply spellbinding.
From the haunting intro to "Mitzvah" to the closing notes of "Agadelcha"
Bridging the Gap burns with a combination of ancient
Jewish tradition and modern genre-crossing musical fusion. Vocalist
Andrew Black and guitarist Barry Richman contribute to an epic
rendition of the blues classic "As the Years Go Passing By," but
the real highlights are Yosi's original tunes like "David and
Goliath" and "Dream of Redemption."

Please stop by our booth at the upcoming Allman Brothers shows
to renew your subscription, laugh and hang out with all the new
friends you're bound to meet. We'll be doing our front
row ticket raffle for everyone who subscribes at the booth. Be
sure to get there early for the raffle as we want to give away
those seats 30 minutes before Bob Weir and Ratdog start! We always
enjoy seeing our readers/customers out on the road, and this year
we look forward to celebrating the memory of our beloved Publisher
Bill Ector, who will surely be with us in spirit.
In addition to our contest, the Big House Foundation will also
be doing an auction for front row tickets. This is a great way
to benefit a good cause, and get front row seats in advance of
the shows. Imagine enjoying the concert from the front row, all
the while knowing that your contribution will help preserve the
history and legacy of the Allman Brothers Band. It's a win-win!
