The Brothers came out and played as focused as they have all year, absolutely thrilling the fans that had come to hear them in this storied venue.  Fan favorite, Josh Chasin, will be contributing his description of each of the shows.  Here are his thoughts on the first one:

The first night of the Final Six, and the band came out with a purpose; the first set especially was spectacular. The opening trio of songs was crunchy and powerful. Gregg’s solo tune “Just Another Rider” was a rare treat, and Warren’s showcase, “Feel Like Breaking Up Someone’s Home,” was a ferocious highlight, with Oteil stepping to the fore and driving the song up front, and the whole band jamming hard on the one chord at the back end. It was an early highlight. “Come On In My Kitchen” was full of slow bluesy tension. But the section of this show that you’ll come back to over and over was the close of the set, beginning with an epic “True Gravity,” a version that left the performances of the song from the spring in the dust. This version harkened back to the mighty summer of ‘96 versions of the song, but without the drum break. Then, before you could catch your breath, they jumped directly into a swinging “You Don’t Love Me,” which ended in a shuffle jam, which in turn gave way to an exquisite instrumental version of “Will the Circle Be Unbroken,” the two guitarists wringing every drop of soul from the tune.

“Spots of Time” was a second set highlight, full of both vocal and instrumental narrative. “ Stand Back” was a rubbery joy (thank you Oteil). “Revival” was played close to the version on the album, tight and crisp, as opposed to becoming the extended jam vehicle it’s been the last nine years or so. “The Sky is Crying” was a crowd favorite, full of thick, gooey blues. “Elizabeth Reed” was punctuated by a brief run through the reggae standard “Get Up, Stand Up,” and the encore, “No One Left to Run With,” was short, sweet, and in the pocket. All in all, a hell of a start to the end.
