We are still taking orders for the Scrapomatic pre-sale, with their latest release, Sidewalk Caesars, shipping out June 23rd. This rootsy, bluesy release features all the great, gritty blues flavor that fans have come to expect from Scrapomatic, while at the same time expanding the duo's sound to include a full band.

Mike Mattison (lead singer for the Derek Trucks Band) and Paul Olsen are the heart and soul of Scrapomatic, writing some of the best contemporary blues tunes around and harmonizing in a way that only comes when you have been playing and singing together for years. Guitarist Dave Yoke, bassist Ted Pecchio and drummer Tyler Greenwell flesh out the sound, putting some rock and roll meat on the bluesy bones of Scrapomatic.

All pre-orders will receive autographed copies of Sidewalk Caesars and everyone who orders before June 24th will be entered into a raffle - first prize is two tickets to a Scrapomatic/Soul Stew Revival show (subject to availability) with a Scrapomatic meet-and-greet and second prize is a framed, handwritten lyric sheet to the song of your choice from the new CD. Click here to listen to song samples and to order! Scrapomatic will be hitting the road this summer, including a number of gigs opening for Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi's Soul Stew Revival.

For example, check them out on Saturday afternoon at the All Good Festival on the Magic Hat Stage. Speaking of which....

Hittin' the Note loves a good music festival as much as anyone, and they don't get much better than the appropriately titled All Good Music Festival in West Virginia! For their 12th year, Walther Productions has taken it up a notch with possibly the finest lineup in the history of the festival. The Avett Brothers, Grace Potter, Medeski Scofield Martin & Wood, Phil Lesh and Friends, and a special late night set by Gov't Mule - and that is just on Friday!

Saturday features Widespread Panic plus, Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeschi's Soul Stew Revival, Mike Gordon, Tea Leaf Green, and much, much more. The festivities cap off in fine style on Sunday with two HTN favorites, JJ Grey and Mofro's swamp boogie and Railroad Earth's timeless Americana sound, plus the high-energy conscious reggae of Michael Franti and Spearhead.

One thing the All Good Music Festival prides itself on is having no overlapping sets, so if you have the energy and stamina for it, you can hear every note played by every band. We're glad they are changing one tradition. In the past, no headliner at All Good has played more than two hours. This year, they are breaking the mold to allow for three-hour sets by both Phil and Friends and Widespread Panic. Whether you want to get your Phil, or just need to Panic, All Good is where you want to be!

For the first time, Hittin' the Note will have a booth at the festival, so make sure to stop by and renew your subscription, or just say hello. We always enjoy meeting our readers and subscribers at events like these, and we hope to see you there.

Put on your summer vacation attire and get on down to Macon, Georgia's Cox Capitol Theatre Saturday, June 28 for the first event in a "Stay and Play in Macon" concert series presented by the theatre and the Big House Foundation.

The bluesy-jazzy down home boogie music of Col. Bruce & the Quark Alliance will be featured at the theatre located at 382 Second St. in downtown Macon. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the concert starts at 8 p.m., opening with a rare acoustic solo set by Eddie "The Gypsy Bluesman" Kirkland, followed by Macon native indie pop and folk-rock singer Heather Kemp.

"Cox Capitol Theatre is a beautifully restored venue with a state of the art sound system," said Cox Capitol Theatre Board Chair David Thompson. "The Big House Foundation has access to musical talent and a tremendous following. By joining forces, we will grow the support of both organizations and provide Middle Georgia with a level of talent befitting the musical heritage of our area," Thompson said.

In connection with the concert, the Macon Film and Video Festival (MAGA) and the Big House Foundation will present on Sunday, June 29 at 4 p.m. at the Cox Capitol Theatre a special screening of Billy Bob Thornton's 1996 cult classic, Sling Blade, in which Hampton plays Morris, a song writing band manager. Following the screening, Hampton will participate in a question and answer session. Individual tickets and table reservations for either event can be made by contacting the Capitol Theatre at 478-257-6391 or via their website at www.coxcapitoltheatre.com

Every now and then, a band reaches beyond themselves and creates an album that transforms them into something else altogether. Deep Blue Sun have been a well-known and popular local jamband in Atlanta for years, but nobody had any reason to expect they would put out one of the best CDs of 2008.

Until now, that is. Their new CD, Live at Tree Sound, reveals a band that has the chops, the songs, and the vibe to compete with any band on the jam scene today. What group wouldn't love to have tunes like "Another Day" and "Jump in the Ocean" to stretch out and jam on? How many jambands would love to have a guitarist with the technique and tone of Matt Flynn, or the rhythm section of rock solid drummer Ted Hoyer and funky bassist Ben Hernandez?

The heart and soul of the band is the husband/wife team of John Marsh and Kate Moore, and their vocal harmonies and catchy songwriting are front and center on nearly every song. Following in the tradition of other famous musical couples like Delaney and Bonnie or Emmylou Harris and Gram Parsons, they share a musical bond that comes from deep in the soul.

Don't believe me? Ask Derek Trucks Band drummer Yonrico Scott, who calls Deep Blue Sun "The best kept secret in the jamband world" and declares "I love jamming and vibing to Deep Blue Sun's funky grooves."
