Hittin' the Note is proud to offer a very special pre-sale for one of our favorite singers, guitarist and songwriters - Ms. Susan Tedeschi Trucks! Her new CD, Back to the River, is scheduled to be released on October 28th and all pre-orders will be entered into a raffle to win two premium seats to the Soul Stew Revival's New Year's Eve show at the Fabulous Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia! In addition to this first raffle prize we will also be offering other goodies as additional rewards - stay tuned for more details! All of you vinyl fanatics out there will be especially pleased to hear that this release is also coming out as an album - what a cool move by Verve Records and Susan T. There is a very good chance you will get to hear some of Susan's new songs performed live at the Soul Stew Revival's annual New Year's Eve concert at the Fabulous Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia! This supergroup, headed up by Derek and Susan Trucks, has delighted audiences for five straight years in Atlanta with their own 70's flavored brand of R&B, funk, gospel, world, jazz and blues gumbo. In a stroke of genius, the evening's festivities will begin with the Sun Ra Archestra, which was a very early influence on Derek. We expect "Father Time," HTN's own "Tour Mystic," to MC the proceedings. To purchase tickets before the general public, please go to this link between Tuesday and Thursday of this week - October 7th through the 9th.

Hittin' the Note is excited to sponsor the Bear Creek Music Festival, Nov.14-15, at the magnificent Spirit of Suwannee Music Park, and we hope to see you there! This year's festival features many of our favorite artists, from the soulful sounds of JJ Grey and MOFRO to the New Orleans flavor of bands like Dumpstaphunk and Dirty Dozen Brass Band. Atlanta favorites Deep Blue Sun and Donna Hopkins will be there, as well as perennial HTN favorite Tommy Talton, playing a rare festival set!

The lineup is nothing if not superbly diverse, with red-hot newgrass stars Yonder Mountain String Band sharing the bill with electro-jam powerhouse Perpetual Groove and blues-rockers Tishamingo. Several bands will play multiple sets, giving you more than one chance to catch them. Don't miss the Bear Creek Super Jam, which should be a unique event! And of course, all of this will take place in the woodsy, natural splendor of the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park. HTN readers will be thrilled to hear that the multi-talented Kofi Burbridge will be "Artist in Residence" for Bear Creek! Look for Kofi to be sitting in with various artists all weekend, adding flute, keyboards and his own special vibe. Who could ask for more? We'll see you there! Our friends in Florida are in for a treat in late-October, with a couple of shows from the newly revitalized Widespread Panic! These concerts, with Los Lonely Boys opening, should be scorchers, as the band builds up momentum for their first Halloween trip to New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina hit.

Guitarist Jimmy Herring has breathed new life into Panic, and the band is playing at their highest level in years. For a taste of what Jimmy is capable of in a different context, check out his jazzy new album Lifeboat, available for pre-order now! You will also want to pick up the next issue of Hittin' the Note magazine, which will have a feature story about Jimmy. We had a wide-ranging conversation with the versatile Mr. Herring, covering everything from his unique musical relationship with Derek Trucks to Widespread Panic to the musical breakthrough that led to the creation of Lifeboat.

Last but certainly not least, everyone at HTN is looking forward to the upcoming Allman Brothers shows at Chastain Park in Atlanta! You might want to get to Atlanta a day early to catch Tommy Talton's CD release party at Smith's Olde Bar on Thursday October 9th. We are proud to be behind Tommy's new CD Someone Else's Shoes, but as with many of our favorite artists, you're not getting the whole picture unless you see him live! This show, which also features Atlanta's own Lefty Williams and an acoustic set from Sonny Moorman, will have Tommy joining forces with his Cowboy bandmate Scott Boyer, guaranteeing that this will be an amazing night of music.

Make sure to stop by our booth at the Friday, October 10th Chastain show for a chance to win tickets to the "Official Allman Brothers After Party" featuring the Lee Boys at Smith's Olde Bar. Look for Earl Walker and Roosevelt Collier of the Lee Boys to sit in with the Brothers on Friday and then for Oteil Burbridge to return the favor later that night by sitting in with these sacred steel sensations!

Another gathering of interest in Atlanta on Friday is the Yonrico Scott Birthday Bash - with special guest Geoff Achison and the Souldiggers at the 5 Spot in Little 5 Points at 9:30pm. Yonrico's band features Kofi Burnbridge and Todd Smallie, also of the Derek Trucks Band. Tommy Talton (Cowboy) and Mike Mattison, lead singer from the dTb are expected as are other special guests!
