Based out of upstate New York, jam band moe. wrapped up their tour with a one
night stand at Atlanta’s beloved Tabernacle on November 19, 2011. The band had begun
its fall tour in Texas at the start of November, making their way up the East Coast before
heading down to Atlanta for the final show of the tour, before heading back up to NYC to
play a sold-out, two-night run at Terminal 5 over Thanksgiving holiday.
Instead of using their normal setlists picked before each set, the group went onstage
with a list of songs with numbers next to them. As the night went on, it was obvious that
the band was using signals to each other to decide what tunes would be played next. The
show had many treats sprinkled in throughout, including a huge “Faker > Kyle’s Song”
that had the entire venue swaying back and forth with the bass line. The band had set
their lighting rig in such a way that they were able to utilize the giant disco ball hanging
from the middle of the ceiling. This provided for some amazing lighting during the show.
In the second set, moe. showed their stripes by segueing many of the songs from one
to the next, something that the group has always been ahead of the game on. Highlights
during the second set were a great “Big World” opener along with the enormous “Y.O.Y.
> Blue Jeans and Pizza.” As the band neared the end of “Bring You Down,” it seemed
like this would be the finale of an incredible set, but “Not Coming Down > Wormwood
> St. Augustine” came next, and kept the crowd on the edge of their seats wanting more.
Well, more is what they got! The three-song encore was amazing, which started with an
intense “Crab Eyes” followed by an amazing rendition of Tom Petty’s “Wildflowers” and
was capped off by “Wind It Up,” a tune off of their 2007 studio effort The Conch.
