Hittin' the Note is now shipping the Allman Brothers Band show at the 2007 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. After their set ended, Jazz Fest producer Quint Davis proclaimed, "Still undefeated, the heavyweight champions of the world, the Allman Brothers Band!" In front of a vast crowd that was allegedly the largest in the history of the Gentilly Stage, the ABB showed why they are one of the living treasures of American music with a passionate performance that covered all aspects of their career, from their first album in 1969 to their latest release, Hittin' the Note.

One very special part of this show was an appearance by former Allman Brothers keyboardist Chuck Leavell on "Jessica." His long, jazzy solo set the tone for a massive, blockbuster version that brought the house down. Check out the "Mountain Jam" and "In a Silent Way" teases, and the strong solos by Derek Trucks and Warren Haynes. Chuck also joined the band for "The Weight," which featured Susan Tedeschi at her soul-testifying best.

Other highlights from this show include a great "Ain't Wastin' Time No More," and an expansive, jazzy "Rockin' Horse" that stands with the best versions of that song. "Every Hungry Woman" was nothing less than explosive, but perhaps the peak of the whole experience was the powerful rendition of "Desdemona" that drew a roar from the crowd when the group "hit the note" in the middle of Warren's solo. A truly special moment, captured for the ages on this crisp two-CD set. Get this one for yourself and turn it up! Click here to listen to audio samples and to order yours right now.

If you're reading this email, you are probably aware of the transcendent beauty and magical vibe of the Spirit of Suwannee Music Park. Hittin' the Note is proud to announce that it's time to make plans to go back to Suwannee for MagnoliaFest 2007!

This year's lineup is one of their best ever, featuring such perennial HTN favorites as Oteil and the Peacemakers, Col. Bruce Hampton, Railroad Earth, the Codetalkers, and Blueground Undergrass. Bluegrass patriarch Peter Rowan will be there, as always, Drew Emmitt of Leftover Salmon and Bill Nershi of String Cheese Incident are going to debut their musical meeting of the minds, and the legendary Toots and the Maytals add some reggae flavor. This is a festival that is all music, no hype. Don't expect to see this year's pop fad or some gimmicky novelty act, just some of the very best musicians on Planet Earth getting down in a wonderfully relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. Many bands will play multiple sets according to Magfest tradition.

Festival organizers Randy and Beth Judy have turned the elusive art of creating a vibe into a finely-tuned science over the past ten years, and musicians as well as fans look forward to MagnoliaFest as a time to recharge the spirit, enlighten the mind and heal the soul. Special kids activities, a walking parade, informative workshops and one-time-only collaborations help add to the fun. Throw in the special mojo of the Spirit of Suwannee, and you have an experience that is unlike any other.

2000 Early Bird tickets are for sale right now until August 8th, or until they sell out, whichever comes first. Click http://magmusic.com/ticketsformagfest.htm to buy tickets, and look for us at the HTN booth over by the Amphitheater Stage!

Everyone at Hittin' the Note is very excited about the Allman Brothers' September 8th concert with Dave Matthews Band – the ABB's first show at Piedmont Park since 1970. What was already shaping up to be a great weekend is looking even better now, with exciting shows on September 7th at the Dark Horse Tavern and September 8th at Smith's Olde Bar, both right around the corner from Piedmont Park.

The show on the 7th will feature Bonobos Convergence, with Vaylor Trucks on guitar, along with the Tony Tyler Trance. Bonobos made a lot of new fans at Wanee Fest this year with their intricate and powerful prog-rock, and Tony is one of the hottest, up-and-coming young guitarists in Georgia. There will be a lot of talent on stage at this show, and look for plenty of jamming and interaction between the bands. A good excuse to come to Atlanta a day early and get warmed up for the main event!

The show at Smith's on the 8th is guaranteed to run late and will be the place to be after the Piedmont Park festivities, which end at 11 PM. Atlanta's own Col. Bruce Hampton will be there, as well as Bonobos Convergence and the Tony Tyler Trance. All kinds of special guests and surprises are expected, and you definitely don't want to miss this one! Click here to get your tickets now; this show is sure to sell out quickly.

You may have read about Atlanta guitar legend Barry Richman in our most recent issue of Hittin' the Note magazine. We are happy to announce that his new CD, Blues From Mars Vol. 2 is now in stock! If you are already a fan of Blues From Mars Vol. 1, get ready for the next level. This is Barry's best work, a sweeping, diverse collection of tunes that runs the gamut from the deep blues of "The Last Song" to the jazzy "Roll Over DB" and the hard-rocking "Floodwaters." His inventive, imaginative playing and pure, crystal clear tone distinguish Richman as one of the very best guitarists around, and this CD shows why he is a local legend in Atlanta.
